The Machine Set-Up Operator ensures machinery is set up, works properly, and conforms with (and can produce materials that conform with) company quality, quantity, and efficiency standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Proactively attains a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
  • Sets up and operates tools according to instructions, specifications, and standard charts.
  • Studies blueprints, work orders, and other specifications to ensure the proper setup sequence is followed.
  • Selects, places, and secures tools.
  • Places and secures workpieces in proper machine table, holding device, or other appropriate surface using clamps and wrenches.
  • Prepares fixtures and feeding devices, starts machine, and engages feed.
  • Observes each machine to verify quality performance.
  • Verifies measuring instruments such as gauges, calipers, and micrometers are in proper working order.
  • Sets and adjusts necessary controls to regulate machines.
  • Sharpens tools with bench grinder as needed.
  • Program CMM and measure geometries of parts.
  • Record results for data collection and ISO documentation.
  • Train new employees in how to properly operate machines.
  • Lead by example and always set a high standard.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough understanding of mechanics and other properties of machines.
  • Ability to follow written instructions, diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Ability to follow proper safety protocols.
  • Ability to determine whether machinery is working properly based on specifications for expectations such as fixtures, cutting speeds, or feed rates.
  • Program and read CMM output.
  • Experience with CNC G code.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERINCE: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • CMM programming certificate with 2 years of experience.
  • 5 years of experience as a machine operator.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Walking, standing, sitting, listening, and talking on a wide variety and continual basis. Movement generally throughout the manufacturing areas required. Ability to travel to local plants on a regular basis.
